• Land remains open: Leasing land from local owners, Mars Hill Wind provides residents with additional income, without interfering with the current use of the land, so the landscape remains open and rural
• Local, sustainable power to help stabilize electricity costs: The natural, renewable energy produced at Mars Hill Wind provides power for over 20,000 New England homes each year.
• More jobs for Mars Hill residents: Mars Hill hires locally whenever possible and employed over 300 local residents during construction.
• Increased use of local companies and services: During development, $22 million was spent with Maine-based organizations.
• Reduced dependence on costly fuels: Wind energy helps reduce dependence on costly fossil fuel imports, strengthens the diversity of the nation’s energy supply, and enhances America’s energy independence.
