First Wind, an independent North American wind power company, today announced that Kurt Adams will assume the position of Senior Vice President, Transmission Development. Adams will primarily be responsible for the oversight and implementation of transmission planning for all of First Wind’s operating and development projects. “We are very excited to welcome Kurt to our team, and we know that his immense experience will help advance the transmission efforts for our projects across North America,” said Paul Gaynor, President and CEO of First Wind, formerly UPC Wind. “Through his most recent work as Chairman of the Maine Public Utilities Commission, Kurt has a great working knowledge of the issues facing the wind industry. Kurt is now part of our senior management team; we look forward to his leadership in implementing creative transmission solutions across our operating and development portfolio.” Since 2005, Adams served as the Chairman of the Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC) where he managed the 75-person agency regulating key electricity, telecommunications, and water utility infrastructure. Saving consumers millions of dollars, Adams implemented Maine’s energy efficiency strategies, including Efficiency Maine. He also sited and approved infrastructure including electricity delivery and transmission. Prior to serving as PUC Chairman, Adams acted as the Chief Legal Counsel to Governor John Baldacci, representing the Governor on all legal matters including the interests in adjudicated, administrative and legislative issues. He also served as the Governor’s chief energy policy advisor. Before this role, he was an attorney in the law firm of Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson, where he served as the vice-chair of the firm’s Energy Practice Group.
